In addition to being one of the loveliest waterfront communities on the Chesapeake Bay, Gibson Island affords its residents many amenities. The 1,000 acre island, about 3 miles long and 2 miles wide, is surrounded by the Bay to its east and the Magothy River to its west. It has a 44 acre fresh water lake, called Otter Pond, in its center. Its harbor is a broad cove of the Magothy River, sheltered from all sides and furnishing safe anchorage.

Gibson Island has 200 private residences located both on and off the 3 different bodies of water, the Chesapeake Bay, the Magothy River, and the Lake. Gibson Island Corporation, owned by the residents, owns the remaining 2/3rds of the land. All residents can enjoy the security which comes with a 24 hour manned gatehouse as well as a private police department. The Island has a bird sanctuary, a nature trail for walking and miles of roadways for bicycling and jogging. Residents can enjoy kayaking, canoeing, fishing, windsurfing, and sailing.
